Small Business Spotlight: ShortStack Labs

Who: Jim Belosic, 32, @ShortStackJim

What: Custom designs for Facebook

Where: Reno, Nevada

When: Started as a white label development agency in 2003; ShortStack started in January 2011

How: While operating as a small services agency with only a few clients, what is now ShortStack Labs began experimenting with the Facebook platform to create custom pages and content. This service became a popular request, and the company began marketing itself as a builder of Facebook content.

ShortStack, which has 10 employees, then created its own content management system that allowed developers to make changes themselves.

“One day a lightbulb went on: let the clients have direct access to our CMS,” Belosic said. “We started focusing full-time on polishing that, released private data in November 2010 and in January 2011, we launched ShortStack and it grew from there.”

Quote from the owner: “One of the things we really wanted to do was give people a ton of power, customizability, [flexibility] without the huge price tag.”
